If you need to add 2 large numbers, it may become complex and time consuming. Specifically for candidates who are preparing for competitive exams as they can not afford to waste even a second extra.
I have a very simple and ultra quick method to solve complex addition problems in a fraction of moment. This method is ultra fast because all temporary/intermediate calculation can be done in mind i.e. without pen & paper.
In mental addition method
- add a number in first addend to make it multiple of 10 or 100.
- substract same number from second addend to balance.
- add new addends in mind.
Ex-1 .

Quickly you can identify that first addend will become multiple of 10 by adding 1. Thus given question can be transformed to as below.

Now start addition from Left side
300 + 400 = 700,
60+ 61 = 121
=> 700+121 = 821.
Above mentioned temporary/intermediate steps will be performed in mind.
With little practice, you will become master of this method to solve complex addition problems in a fraction of time.
