Eclipse use .metadata directory to store your project configureation information. There are many reasons due towhich you can get Eclipse – “Workspace in use or cannot be created, chose a different one” error. As there are many possible reasons causing this issue thus there are multiple solutions to it.
There are multiple solutions to fix this issue.
- Check and find if there is any Eclipse process running and end/kill that. Hopefully it is enough to fix the issue. Else try next step.
- Go to metadata directory which is available inside the Workspace directory. “.lock” file is available there. Remove that file.Hopefully it is enough to fix the issue. Else try next step.
- Remove the Workplace Directory. It will definately fix the issue but it will remove your Eclipse configuration.
